Brock Purdy sets 49ers record for passing yards in a single season

Brock Purdy etched his name in the San Francisco 49ers record books on Sunday against the Washington Commanders. The quarterback needed only 229 passing yards to set a new franchise record for the most passing yards in a single season. Purdy surpassed that mark in the fourth quarter, breaking the record of 4,278 passing yards set by Jeff Garcia in 2000. Purdy has 4,280 passing yards as of this post.

Notably, Purdy accomplished the feat in 16 games, not requiring the 17th game of the season to break the record. It's even more impressive when you consider that Purdy is only in his second NFL season after becoming a starter in December of 2022.

Purdy is only the third quarterback in franchise history to throw for over 4,000 yards, joining Garcia and Steve Young, who did it in 1993 and 1998.

With his two passing touchdowns against the Commanders, Purdy also became the first 49ers quarterback to throw at least 30 touchdowns in a season since Jeff Garcia did so in 2001 (32 TDs).

San Francisco made Purdy the last overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He entered last season as the third quarterback on the depth chart, with injuries thrusting him into the spotlight late in the season.

Depending on the outcome of the game between the Arizona Cardinals and the Philadelphia Eagles, Purdy may have an opportunity to add to the record next weekend against the Los Angeles Rams.

49ers' Brock Purdy, Nick Bosa weigh in on potential 18-game season

By David Bonilla
May 22

The NFL increased each team's regular-season schedule from 16 games to 17 games in 2020. The league is always looking to maximize revenue. An 18th game is expected in the near future, and there's no indication the NFL will halt expansion at that point. However, there are complications with lengthening the season by another week. The NFL prefers to conclude its season before Presidents Day. Adding a week to the beginning of the season could encroach on Labor Day Weekend, something the commissioner, Roger Goodell, likely wants to avoid. The NFL, a Goliath in sports, can likely do whatever it wants. This is evident in its decision to schedule games on Christmas Day—a Wednesday this year. It's a move that has rightfully

During an impressive 2023 campaign, Purdy set a single-season franchise record with 4,280 passing yards, surpassing all the former greats who have played for the organization. The goal for 2024 is clear: win the Super Bowl. To achieve that, the 49ers will need another stellar year from Purdy. One NFL scout believes San Francisco will get just that, making a bold prediction for the upcoming season. "I think Brock Purdy will turn in his best season yet. He's going to win the MVP award this season," the scout recently

49ers QB Brock Purdy Will (Eventually) Shut You Up

By Jeff Kaplan
22 hrs

I stayed quiet. For the better part of two long years, I just quietly held my peace. Oh, it certainly wasn't easy, not when I had this platform available. But I just let the "experts" go; I just let them have their say. Why even try to argue with them? There's no reason in these debates anymore. There's just shouting, usually in defense of preconceived judgments—or, dare I say, "narratives"—that only seem to get more entrenched, even as they get soundly debunked. And, let's be honest, I knew better than to overreact to a few early starts. We'd been through this so many times already. Five years earlier, Jimmy Garoppolo took over and rattled off five straight wins. Five years before that, Colin Kaepernick took over

Does PFF's ranking of 49ers QB Brock Purdy surprise you?

By David Bonilla
May 21

Trevor Sikkema of Pro Football Focus recently ranked all 32 starting NFL quarterbacks based on the analytics site's data and his own opinions. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes stands alone in Tier 1, aptly named "Mahomes," taking the top spot in Sikkema's ranking. Tier 2 features three "do-it-all" quarterbacks: Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens, Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals, and Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills. These players are considered the "elite" quarterbacks of the league. Then you have Tier 3, labeled "postseason-caliber" quarterbacks, which includes the next six quarterbacks in the ranking. However, you won't find San
